Ground Floor Connection
GROUND FLOOR aims to diversify the talent and professionals working behind the scenes in the Media, TV and Film industries in the UK.
We want to highlight and support emerging and established off-screen BAME talent, who help create 'media magic', with a focus on the professionals behind the talent, by uplifting and celebrating a range of Black, Asian and other underrepresented ethnicities who deal with the other side of entertainment that do the deals, cut the cheques and brings together all the elements that help make our box office hits, indie favourites, catchy commercials, music videos and primetime shows - such as entertainment lawyers/attorneys, agents, publicists, commissioners, casting directors and more!
Founded by Tolu Rachael Akisanya, after years working as an entertainment Publicist, and noticing the lack of diversity in the industry. Spearheading the launch of Directors UK's 2015 diversity research report (Adjusting The Colour Balance: Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Directors in UK Television Production) highlighted the disparity in the UK, and revealed the same issue across other areas in the film and TV industry, including writers, producers, commissioners, and more - despite having as much experience and qualifications as their white counterparts.
Our mission is to increase the visibility of BAMEs working in professional roles in the entertainment industry and help create a more inclusive and representative industry, for all. The objective of Ground Floor is to help create better access for BAME professionals, more opportunities for learning and career development, networking opportunities to amplify BAME professionals working in these fields, and highlight it as viable professions to younger generations.
We will also be working and collaborating with industry organisations and individuals to encourage and champion diversity and inclusion in the workforce, through consultations, workshops, mentoring, training and networking events, as well as a series of creative action, lobbying and campaigns.
We want to work with organisations, and support campaigns who are actively working to improve diversity and inclusion in the TV and Film industries, through job placements, Internships and Apprenticeships, networking events, mentoring, education and training opportunities, and lobbying & campaigns for change.
Get in touch if have any opportunities or you'd like to hear more.
